Story of the tournament
The 1886–87 British Home Championship started poorly for Wales with a 0-4 drubbing by England in a match where goalkeeper, Dr Robert Herbert Mills-Roberts played with both wrists in plaster having broken both wrists. Mills-Roberts place was taken by Wrexham's Bob Roberts for Wales' second match, but things got even worse as Wales sufferd a first ever defeat to Ireland.
Scotland completed Wales' whitewash in the final match with a 2-0 win in Wrexham. With James Trainer of Bolton Wanderers making his debut in goal, Wales used three different goalkeepers in the three matches.
