Cyprus have never qualified for a major tournament and despite being members of FIFA since 1948 the island did not play its first official international match until 1960 after Cyprus had gained it's independence from the United Kingdom.

History

Cyprus played its first unofficial international match in Tel Aviv in 1949; a 3-1 defeat to Israel.

In November 1960, following independence from British rule, Cyprus drew its first official international match, also against Israel, as part of the 1962 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament.

Wales record v Cyprus

Wales' first meeting with Cyprus was in qualifying for the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

Wayne Hennessey won his 50th cap for Wales during the match against Cyprus in Nicosia in 2015.
